We are made of all those who have built and broken us

“If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?”

“Why are you here then?”

“You’re killing me.”

Adam was shaking his head. Lilly had returned, but was pretending to be engrossed in a conversation on her mobile.

I was just going to be honest. “Partly because Adam told me to and partly because he was right when he said I needed to spend time becoming reacquainted with the human race.”

She smiled. Her eyes sparkled.

“Good answer.”

Adam drained his glass and stood up. “Shall we go? Please!”

“Where are we going?”

“Polar.”

Polar was the new bar in town. Great music and cool decor. MariCarmen jumped up and extended her hand to me.

“It’ll be great. We can dance. I love to dance.”

“I don’t dance.”

“Why not?”

“He says he is too cool to dance.” Adam laughed as we walked toward the door.

“We’ll soon change that. There are two things you need to understand. One is that if something is funny once, it is funny every time. The other is everyone should dance. I could teach you.”

“Thanks. It is tempting…..but no.”

However, I couldn’t help but smile. She was so enthusiastic. About everything. She slipped her arm through mine as we walked across town.

“Does this make you uncomfortable?”

Cue blush.

“Uh, no.”

“Liar.”

I blushed more.

“So where do you live?”

“Back with my parents at the moment. Though I am going to be staying at a friends place over the weekend as they are going away. I looking after their two cats. One’s lovely, but one is crazy. He’s half Siamese and half feral and he apparently loves to bring in live animals, admire his handiwork and drop them on the floor and let them run round in circles, terrified.

“My old flat mate was half Siamese and half feral and he did the same. Hence me moving out.”

I laughed. Adam had actually done a good job arranging this night out.

More enthusiasm from her.

“Let’s go get a drink somewhere quieter. They won’t mind. In fact, I think Adam might be grateful.”

“What about in here?” It was a small bar with latticed windows on the front.

“Perfect. We’re going in here.” She shouted to the two of them, as they walked on ahead.

“We’ll catch up with you.”
